Teacher trainer

Digital Education Africa Network and Viafrica Kenya Foundation are working closely together to improve education through the applied use of digital solutions. To unleash the potential of our successful approach, we are looking for a trainer in Kenya.

Together with the team in The Netherlands and Kenya, you will be responsible for developing our training curriculum and training teachers at primary and secondary schools in digital literacy and 21st Century Skills.

This position requires frequent travelling to schools all over Kenya and Tanzania. We are looking for a trainer who has the flexibility to be from home for one to two weeks per month to facilitate training sessions at distant locations.

Tasks

We are looking for a hands-on trainer with ample training experience and preferably experience with digital literacy and teacher training.

You will be responsible for:

  • The development of our training curriculum for schools
  • Operational planning of the daily training activities
  • Training of teachers
  • Coaching of teachers in the classroom

Profile

  • You are based in or close to Thika or willing to move there
  • Your English & Swahili are fluent
  • You have a minimum of 3 years of training experience
  • You are enthusiastic about technology as a tool to improve education
  • You are knowledgeable about the Kenyan education system and curriculum
  • More than basic computer knowledge
  • You have a driver’s license and preferably a car

Context

Expect to work in a demanding environment with a small team and (inter)national partners where results depend on a proactive approach and where your own initiative is highly appreciated.

Technical team

We are creating an affordable, modular, portable and versatile technical solution to facilitate training and teaching at all locations, with or without available infrastructure. The first version of this ElimuPi is available and being used in Africa. However, we have a substantial wishlist of functionality we want to add, and are looking for support in the following areas.

  1. Linux expert, to expand the functionality of the Raspberry server
  2. Web server expert, to further develop the web services
  3. 3G/4G expert, to finetune Internet connectivity
  4. Wifi expert, to optimise the wifi connectivity
  5. Power expert, to develop smart power switching functionality between a power bank and the grid

If you have ample experience in one of the above areas and are interested to support DEAN on a voluntary base, don’t hesitate to contact us.

  1. Develop a development path for the next versions of the ElimuPi
  2. Contribute, in your expertise area, to this development
  3. Create clear documentation of the solutions implemented

Context

You will work with a team of DEAN staff and partners in The Netherlands and Africa. We expect you to work from home with regular face-to-face meetings in The Netherlands.

Online marketing team

DEAN depends on the involvement of many partners to create the impact we envision. We reach these partners in The Netherlands and East-Africa through different (social) media. To increase our reach and inform more people about our educational work we seek support for our marketing and communication team.

Do you like writing? Are you fluent in social media, great in web design or good at creating short movies? And are you interested to contribute as a volunteer to DEANs mission? Don’t hesitate to contact us.
